A Trip for the Pig's Death is an interactive video installation that came up with a journeyJoão did to a family gathering in south east Portugal in late February 2010.
The purpose of the gathering was to redo a tradition that had not been done for 15 years - slaughter a pig and feast with it for a whole weekend in community with family and close friends.
As a part of his life, he turned the videos captured in this gathering into a video installation with an interactive feature. The aim is to transpose into a room the experience of this tradition. Contrasting situations are shown simultaneously, provoking diverging sensations of peace and beauty or violence and horror.
The interactive feature in the installation is a physical object - a knife on a table. Sensors placed on the table react to the proximity of the viewer, triggering the main video projection - the Pig Slaughter.

Video, audio, arduino, sonsors, table and knife.
10 channels.
Variable lenghts.
2010.
